About Crawlspace Prep
A free study site for one exam: the National Home Inspector Examination. No courses to sell you, no email gate on the practice test, and no pretence that we are the exam board.
The name is not a joke about the trade. The crawlspace is the part of the house nobody volunteers for, and it is where a disproportionate number of real findings live — bad grading showing up as standing water, a downspout dumping two feet from the wall, a ledger rotting where the flashing failed. The exam works the same way: the marks are in the parts people skip.
Where the material comes from
The blueprint
EBPHI’s published exam overview packet, cross-checked against Pearson VUE’s content outline publication. Both give the same nineteen task weights, summing to 100. Sources are linked on every page that uses them.
The questions
A bank of several thousand NHIE-aligned items that sits behind our apps, filtered for length so the quiz card stays still, checked so every explanation supports its answer, and sampled across the nineteen tasks by the official weights rather than by whatever we had most of.
What we leave out
Where a claim could not be sourced, it is not here — and on the electrical guide we say so explicitly rather than quietly dropping it. We do not publish a pass rate as if it were official, we do not print a list of 35 states we have not checked one by one, and we do not invent exam dates for an exam that has none.
How this is paid for
The site links to a paid practice app. If you use the free drill and never click that, the site has done its job. Nothing here is gated.
Crawlspace Prep is an independent study site. We are not EBPHI, ASHI, InterNACHI or a state board, we do not administer the NHIE, and nothing here licenses anybody. Always check the current rule with your state and with EBPHI.
